NEWS: TAMASHA BUNIFU LA MAJI / CREATIVE FESTIVAL OF WATER FESTIVAL, Matemwe was held all day on 28 March 2015, Matemwe, to celebrate World Water Day and it’s 2015 focus of Sustainable Development. A huge success – thanks to all the collaborators and participants on the day, and sponsors! See the video here
Panga Chumvi is situated next to the village of Matemwe, on the north eastern coast of Zanzibar. We are right on the beautiful, white sand beach (the longest unbroken stretch of beach in Zanzibar), opposite the pristine coral reef of Mnemba Island.
We have 15 beautiful en-suite rooms: some are right on the beach; others only about 30 metres away. We combine traditionally designed houses, constructed with coconut palm (makuti) roof and hand-crafted coconut wood furniture throughout, with cool natural ventilation – part of our striving to combine a welcoming resort with one that is creative and friendly to the Zanzibar environment.
Our restaurant has already gained quite a reputation for it’s excellent cuisine and fabulous beach environment. There is wi-fi available throughout the resort. In addition to the beach, our extensive garden has many shady or sunny lounging areas for relaxing or sunbathing. The sea is ever present, washing right up to the garden edge at high tide. We can advise guests about activities such as snorkelling, diving, visiting local historical sites or going on tours of the spice farms.
